6 Weeks Re-tights Completely Impractical.

Are you open to exploring the practice of interlocking your small size locs every 6 weeks?

If yes, keep visiting this space as I will be updating my findings throughout the week.

Please be aware I am a Loctician who works privately with clients, I update this space as often, as I can as I work with Sisterlocks clients who want to convert to Knotted Locs. Thank you for visiting this space. #MelissaBlake CREATOR of #KnottedLocs

My 6 Weeks Re-tightenings

I experienced Sisterlocks for 4 years, which included no oils, washing every 6 weeks before my regimented 6 weeks retightening sessions, which increasingly became more painful. Re-tightenings created trauma to my scalp resulting in a thinning crown area, a number of broken locs to the back left corner of my head, and the beginnings of a residing hairline.

My Discovery 6 Weeks Re-tights

  • Retights is interlocking, interweaving strands at the base of the loc. Backwards braiding with a painful, very impractical and unkindly designed Sisterlocks tool.

  • This interlocking practice for small size locs tends to be scheduled every 6 weeks with the premise that missing your weekly appointments or having too much regrowth will result in locs falling out.

  • The result is 6 weekly washed locs are relocked tight close to the scalp with high chance of snagging as every loc is pulled through the base of the loc against the scalp rubbing loose strands off.

  • At the end of the re-tightening session, there are fine hairs, flakes and in my case broken off locs fallen. Thinly threaded base area of locs.

  • Around the crown area, pain was getting increasingly worse. For many of my clients, it's the same spot as where the relaxer used to burn. Makes sense to feel pain there, because it's already vulnerable.

  • From 2 years on, signs of trauma begin to discreetly surface. This practice is more dangerous because its small size locs, with a keen neat freak consultant wanting to interlock every loose strand tightly into each loc.

  • Interlocking every loose strand possible is practice to create permanent grid lines all adding to the neat finished look.

6 Weeks Re-tights Results

  • The grid line widenings.

  • Locks thinning around crown area and edges

  • Increased fraying from the dryness.

  • Gradual flatnness.

  • Random thin areas along locks, long very thin vulnerable.

  • Extremely sensitive crown area.

  • Continually soar edges.

  • Pain when gently pulling back.

  • Hair loss.

What happened when 6wks Re-tights stops?

When I became a Certified Sisterlocks Consultant, I continue working with traditional locs clients. This directy influenced my written with my Sisterlocks Clients.

I began to realise that my clients with larger size locs, where more relaxed with their locs choosing when they want their locs re-locked. Their locs were much more fuller. They lived much more freer with their locs and it flourished!

When I moved further away from 6 weeks, this is what I discovered with Sisterlocks Heads including mine.

  • More loose hairs along my scalp.

  • More slippage or unravelling.

  • More growth.

  • More scalp coverage.

  • More overall fullness.

  • Better overall density.

  • Less pain and sensitivity during re-tight gaps.
